Walmart Front End Developer / UI Developer Interview Questions and Experience
In this post, i would like to discuss my Walmart Front End Interview Questions and Experience. Walmart is one of the largest companies in the world and it hires Front End / UI Developers in good numbers.

I will focus on three areas:
- How did I apply for Walmart Front End Engineer role?
- Number of rounds and what each round is focused on during Walmart UI Developer Interview?
- Walmart Front End Developer Interview Questions?
1. How did I apply for Walmart Front End Developer role? I applied for Walmart Front End Developer role through their official careers page and Instahyre. My suggestion is that whenever you target big companies, please apply through multiple portals. I was well prepared this time and was actively looking for change.
2. Number of rounds and what each round is focused on during Walmart UI Developer Interview? I appeared for SDE III position for UI Developer. If you have experience around 3 years then you are considered for SDE III position. Total number of rounds held was 4. Walmart Front End Developer interview questions were focused on my past experience as well. Each round was a elimination round.
- First Round: Javascript, HTML, CSS
- Second Round: Data Structures
- Third Round: Scaling and High Level Functionality of Frameworks
- Fourth Round: Hiring Manager Round
3. Walmart Front End Developer Interview Questions?
Javascript, HTML, CSS: I was asked a lot of Javascript based questions with a few CSS questions. I answered all questions.
- Questions based on currying with 4 different variations. I have written a detailed post on it. ADD(1)(2)(3)…(N)() IN JAVASCRIPT | SUM(1,2)(3,4) | CURRYING | This question went on for a long time as interviewer kept coming up with difficult variations.
- How does closures work in Javacript? Closure based output questions.
- Drawing shapes in CSS using box modal? You can approach this by using borders to create shapes like triangle etc.
- Inheritance in Javascript and how to implement it in ES5?
- Scope based questions(value of “this” under certain conditions) etc.
Data Structures: Walmart Front End Developer Interview questions for Data Structures were slightly different from other companies.
- Interviewer asked me about my current and past projects and what was the most difficult data structure based problem i faced. In my case, it was a spell checker module that I implemented during my tenure in last company, so he asked me questions based on that. He went in depth with my implementation.
- Best data structures for implementing dictionary and time complexity in each case. This dictionary should be used for spell check where you need to show suggestions for wrong word. How to make that lookup fast? Best algorithms to use. Focused on hash tables, trees and graph (You don’t have to be 100% correct but it should be as close as possible)
Scaling and High Level Functionality of Frameworks:
- Virtual DOM and Shadow DOM implementation. How does react reconciliation works?

Hiring Manager Round: Hiring Manager was friendly as my feedback was positive for all rounds. He explained about how things work in Walmart, work culture etc. He asked me about my current and past projects, the difficulties that i faced and how did i overcome those difficulties. As i already had e-commerce experience in past, so he asked me couple of questions based on e-commerce back end panels and features.
Conclusion: Walmart front end interview was a positive experience for me. Interviewers had good knowledge and apart from their questions, they created some nice questions based on my past experience. HR was also quick to respond.
